PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for the patients who require stimulation of the hair growth for hair loss conditions. Recent scientific research and new technology provide the medical community with understandings of wound and tissue healing. As a result of these scientific studies, we recognize PRP is an all-natural autologous medical procedure performed in physician offices for the hair stimulation, scalp, and skin.

PRP contains the special cells called Platelets, which may theoretically cause the growth of hair follicles by stimulating stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle. This special Platelet cell promotes the healing, accelerates rate and degree of the tissue healing and regeneration, formation of new cellular growth, and responds to injury. The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase.

Inside the Platelets are many intracellular structures such as lysosomes, glycogen, and alpha granules. These granules within the PRP contain the growth and clotting factors that are eventually released during the repair and healing process.

Human blood contains the mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that contain the essential and specific growth factors that assist in the tissue regeneration and healing. It has been used in a medical adjunct therapy for over two decades for the skin and wound healing. PRP therapy has established itself to be effective as a medical treatment modality in speciality fields of oral surgery, plastic, neurosurgery, and cosmetic surgery, orthopedics, and sports medicine. It has been used extensively in these areas for the last twenty years with generally positive success and outcomes. In the field of hair restoration, evidence supports the PRP therapy as a promising treatment option to promote the hair growth. No claim may be made of its efficacy. While PRP is in the early stages of the scientific research in hair restoration, PRP is not meant to replace the current FDA approved therapies such as Minoxidil and DHT blockers. But it is a promising non-surgical therapeutic option for those patients with the hair loss.

Blood is drawn in our studio as though they are having routine blood testing at our primary care physicians clinic. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood.

The PRP is taken from our body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration. We use Remi Medical PRP System. It is the closed sterile system and platelets are concentrated to 3X the normal blood values. The system eliminates granulocytes which affect wound healing and tissue regeneration. An anesthesia block is given to nerves of the scalp so the patient does not feel any pain. The highly-concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp. The patient hair is then washed and a patient may drive home without any assistance. No sedation or any medication is given during procedures to inhibit the ability to drive or use machinery.
